Let the bells ring

So many of our participants are new so I thought that this week I would show and tell you one small bit of our history.  For those that have been with us nearly from the beginning will remember this and hope that you add your comments to help round out my story.  This is about how we were a group of friends, knowing each other only through blogging and The Friday Shoot-out, but caring about one another regardless.

We, the FSO Gang, got started in the early part of 2009 and one of the original 10 or so, was Barry of An Explorer's View.  He quickly became a favorite within our group plus 600 odd followers out in BlogWorld.  Almost from the beginning, we knew he had been diagnosed with a rare throat cancer and was battling for his life.  His writing brought us in and made us care about his struggle.  We got to know his wife Linda, and his special dog, Lindsey.  The battle became very personal to us all.

During a post about one of his visits for chemo, he talked about the bell that stood outside of the hospital that was rung by patients in celebration of a completion of another round of Chemo.  The idea flew around the globe, at 2 O'clock his local time, he would ring the bell and we, wherever we were, within our own time zone, we would ring a bell with him.  Here is my ringing of the bells for Barry.

First I want to mention Pauline's Train post which was very fascinating

As well as Gingers Plane Museum

We had Dawn Treader's post about the Textile Museum

And Last but not least, there is Peggy's Civil War Museum post which was insightful as well as nicely shot!

Our Towns' Museums

This week's theme is Museums. All our towns have at least one. Grand or simple, inside and out, they tell the stories of our towns. (Ginger)", and on the 18th which is tomorrow is "BELLS"  I hope this minor mix-up did not get anyone on the wrong topic for this week.  I am sure that I intended bells for EASTER which is this week.... so I don't know where it went wrong.

And, for all you new members of the group, this would not be the first time that someone was on the wrong week (B&B was notorious for forgetting what the topic of the week was), or the admin group was on the wrong date. So this is what will happen, if you did Easter bells for this week, then next week give us a museum in your town and if your did a museum this week then YEA!! AND if you did a museum with a bell., you get a prize for being able to figure out that we made a mess of the dates and covered yourself with... class!

This week from my archives of Museums visited:
from The Gold Museum - El Museo del Oro, Bogotá,Colombia.

Our next weekly theme is Let the bells ring - Let the bells ring in celebration. Can you catch the bells in your town ringing? A short video with sound is what we want, but will be happy with a photo of the bells in your town, or images of celebration.

Weather in the Spotlight

I have to admit I thought that "the weather" was an unlikely topic.
How wrong was I?

Initially I saved more than 10 photos,
then had to get to work to cut it down to a manageable number.

We had wind in Massachusetts thanks to a spirit of simplicity

Doreen's snow scene from Michigan

The calm before a storm where Krista lives in Virginia

Incredible colours captured by Jutta from Berlin

And, from Salma in Calgary, a child prepared to enjoy himself whatever the weather.

Here's hoping we all have weather we like this week!

Weather Changes [Friday My Town Shoot Out]

I don't know about you but the weather here has been very inconsistent, with sun and rain interchanging day in and day out. That's why we thought that this weeks theme should be about weather in our towns. Of course this doesn't have to be about the current weather. Be creative. For what weather is your town or city known for? What big weather events do you know of? Or simply, what's the April weather in your parts of the world. Show us and link up for everyone to see!

Spotlights: Out and About in my Town

This group is getting more entertaining each week.
Wow such wonderful photos were shared this week.

Dawn Treader's-Through Town
gives us the feeling of touring her town with her. Activity around the flower beds and landscape give us a feeling of renewing for the coming season.

Christa's geese illustrate how a walk around the town can show us the local fowl in the area and the photos all together, when you look at them on her blog, show the intelligence these fowl possess.
Taking care of the family.

Pauline saw more than building and landscape on her walk about.
The routine of the young folks make for an interesting insight into what kids love to do.
Here I think they were about finished and goofing off.

 Jim's Palm Tree
Represents a calmness that can be found among
a bustling community.

See you next week.
Peggy

Our next weekly theme is
April 11: Weather Changes - April is known to have massive swings when it comes to weather. It can change quickly during a day. Show us your town's weather, from nice and sunny, to grey and rainy. (Mersad)

Out and About [Friday My Town Shoot Out]

What a great topic for spring. I know that some of you all are not feeling spring yet, northeast USA is still being buffeted by snow storms. And some of you just are beginning the fall season. As for Houston, it is on schedule for a mix of cool breezes, hot sun and pollen, sure signs that spring is here and summer coming on fast. I am looking forward to seeing some 'from the ground' shots of our towns.

April 4: Out and About - Take us on a walk through your town. What are the sights you see when you are out doing your daily or weekly chores, or when you are out for some leisure? (by Barb)

A walk in Downtown Houston: hay fever season, the mighty oaks just starting to bloom.
