Member Voice – A Christmas message for you - By Redlan

Hello to all!  It's Christmas!  It's the biggest holidays on the Philippines' calendar.  My country has earned the distinction of celebrating the world's longest Christmas season.  Christmas carols are heard as early as September and the season lasting up until Epiphany.
There are different Christmas traditions in the Philippines.  Traditionally, Christmas Day in the Philippines is ushered in by the nine-day dawn masses that start on December 16.  It is known as the Misa de Gallo in the traditional Spanish and in Filipino as Simbang Gabi.

The Filipino Christmas would not be complete without the traditional Philippine Christmas symbols and decorations.  Christmas lights are stung about in festoons.  For Filipinos. Christmas Eve on December 24th is celebrated with the Midnight Mass, and immediately after the much-anticipated Noche Buena- the traditional Christmas Eve feast.  Some would also open Christmas gifts at this time.

How about you guys?  How Christmas is celebrated in your country/state/city/town?  I would love to know.
This Christmas, I created a paper art Christmas tree of our group.  I hope you'll like it.

I also made some photo Christmas postcard too.  I will give it to the first 7 commentators of this post.  You can contact me through email.

PS- Anyone that has not submitted Christmas photos for the Banner; it is not too late. I can fit more, and the background is Ike & Mike photo I took for fun. If anyone has any photos for upcoming Holidays please send them and I will create files, and any suggestions for Holidays you celebrate outside of USA, please let me know! 3. Redlan, I think that is the coolest Christmas season I've ever heard of! I especially like the nine masses before Christmas Day...maybe we'll give it a try in Juneau! It's my first Alaskan Christmas, so I'm not sure what exactly we do up here, but I will be sure to let you know...that is, of course, if you aren't sick of it by Epiphany!

  4. Redlan, thank you for thinking of us all, and so far in advance. It makes me realize my lack of Christmas spirit - no one decoration up in the house.... guess I'd better get to thinking and creatin....

  6. My name is in my favorite color :) - I love it. What a fun Christmas Tree, bringing us all together like that.

I've written on my blog of one of our very important traditions as a family. We find 25 Christmas books at the library, wrap them up and begin an advent of unwrapping each day through the month until the 25th. Of course, I have three boys and we take turns as to who unwraps each night - we also have 50 other unwrapped books so everyone gets to choose one...then we cuddle up and read :)

  8. Over here we celebrate Christmas with the childrens plays. We go to church on Christmas Eve and that is very special. We usually have a selection of meats for our Christmas eve such as Cockeral, ham, and beef.

    I love the Christmas banner!

  11. Very nice Redlan :)

In Junction City, KS, my adopted hometown, we kick off the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving with a Christmas pareade and the lighting of the lights in the trees in Heritage Park downtown.

In my original hometown of Whittier, CA the Christmas seasonunofficially begins when Bright Medical lights their light tree on top of their building the day after Christmas :) The town also has a parade, I believe this weekend.

  15. Aren't you clever!?!
I love hearing about how differently we all celebrate Christmas! Wherever we are, it's all about the love, the peace, and of course, the reason for the season!
